What is section 1 of PACE
A constable may search any person or vehicle if they have reasonable grounds to believe that they will find any item(s) for the purpose of the search.
What is section 60 of the criminal justice and public order act
Stop and search power to to prevent incidents involving serious violence or to deal with the carrying of offensive or dangerous instruments which have been used in incidents involving serious violence
e.g. gang violence.
Give me an example of when you would use section 60?
A planned fight between rival groups. e.g. Hell’s angels where weapons will be used.
When would you not use section 60?
A high-profile football match taking place where known hooligans are planning to fight.
This is because we have no reasonable grounds to believe that any weapons will be used.

What is section 60 AA of the criminal justice and public order act
The power to remove disguises.
You can require someone to remove face coverings if you have a reasonable belief that they are wearing an item to wholly or particularly disguise their identity for the purposes of concealing a criminal act. You also have the power to seize these items.
You cannot ask someone to remove the disguise simply because it disguises their identity.
What is section 18 of PACE
Entry and search after arrest.
A constable may enter and search any premises occupied or controlled by a person who is under arrest for an indictable offence.
This only happens if the constable has reasonable grounds to believe that there may be evidence relating to the offence.
What is section 24 of PACE
The power to arrest without a warrant
What is section 17 of PACE
The power to enter any premises for the purpose of executing a warrant that is in connection with the offence.
What is section 31 of PACE
Arrest for further offence.
This must be performed at a police station.

Use of reasonable force.
The officer may use reasonable force if necessary in the exercise of the arrest.
