What were the causes of the Wyatt rebellion?

A
  • Rejection of the Spanish marriage (xenofobia, lack of english pride etc.) - MAIN CAUSE
  • Religious concerns: many of Wyatt’s main supporters came from Maidstone (a protestant stronghold)
  • Personal grievances amongst nobility
  • The economic hardships created an environment in which rebellion could gain support more easily
  • Fear of loss of priviledges amongst the gentry in a Spanish-dominated court, some of which had already lost offices
