Imperialism
The seizure of a country or territory by a stronger country.
Industrialization
The process of developing machine production of goods.
Militarism
The policy of glorifying military power and keeping an army prepared for war.
Mobilize
Organizing and assembling national resources to support national objectives in wartime or an emergency.
Schlieffen Plan
Attacking and defeating France in the west and then rushing east to fight Russia. Speed was vital to the plan.
Archduke Ferdinand
Austrian royal that was shot by Gavrilo Princip which started a war between Serbia and Austria that became WWI
Gavrilo Princip
A Serb and member of The Black Hand (Secret Society committed to ridding Bosnia of Austrian Rule) that killed Archduke Franz Ferdinand that started a war between Serbia and Austria that became World War I.

Type of warfare where soldiers fought each other from trenches

The space between the opposing trenches in trench warfare
Zimmerman telegram
Telegram that the US intercepted a telegram written by Arthur Zimmerman who was the German secretary wrote to Mexico saying if Mexico would ally itself with Mexico, Germany would help Mexico reconquer the land lost to the US
Battle of the Somme
Then the British counter attacked the Germans. The British lost more than 20,000 men on the first day.
Gallipolli
The allies attacked Gallipolli peninsula from May until December before they evacuated. The allies had 250,000 casualties.
Russian Revolution
Long term social unrest in Russia that exploded in revolution and ushered in the first communist government.
