Public outcry when bomb exploded in Palmer’s house and this prompted the Palmer Raids.
What happened in november and december 1919?
- November - Palmer’s Justice Department agents raided offices of ‘radical organisations’ in 12 cities across the US. December - 249 ‘radicals’ were deported back to Europe.
What happened in January 1920?
Palmer raids continued, with action in 33 cities to close down all known communist party officers.

Red flag’ laws to ban left-wing insignia. Vigilante gangs operated against union activists in Washington State and California.
