People started to take great pride in their country. Especially in Europe they were convinced that their country was the best in doing things. But for many leaders in Europe the best way in showing they are the best they would have a war with their rivals

People took a great pride in their armies and navies to ensure that there army was the best they would often spend more money and resources onto as they did not want to be the country with the smallest army. This made the countries caught up in an arms race. They had a big and fierce but what was the point if they had not used it so when countries fell out with each other they would be tempeted to use their armies
Long Term Causes of the Great War:Imperialism
It was not just Britain who had an empire as many other European countries had control of other nations oversees such as Africa which was the best one. They would often form many rivalaries and threats to the countries which could be only solvedby war by removing them permanetly

Why was the Triple Alliance and Triple Entente created?
The idea of doing this to put off people as it would be fighting 3 nations instead of one. But this also meant that it would take a small disagreement between two nations and Europe would be caught up in this

Trench Warfare What are the main features?
Duckboards,Firestep,Dugouts,Periscope,Barbed wire,Concrete bunker,Gas bell
What are Duckboards used for?
They were placed on the ground to stop troops from sinking in the mud
What are Fire Steps?
Soldiers stood on these to look and fire over the top of the trench
What are Dugouts?
Rooms that are dug out of the back wall of the trenches prders were usually recieved by the telephone
What was the Gas Bell?
To alert the soldiers to use their gas masks
What were the Trench Rats and why were they a problem?
They were rats who would live in the Trenches and could have offsprings up to 880 and often Trenches would be filled with these. They were bold and could kill and eat a wounded man if it could not defend itself. They were often huge and steal food in the soldiers pockets.
What was the Trench foot disease?
It was a disease that was caught when the soldiers standing in the mud and the cold damp floor could make their boots cold and this led to the feet becoming red and purple and if not treated would need to be amputated
What was the food like in the Trenches
At the beginning of the war it used to be fed well and they were treated well but as the war progressed it would be the bear mininium. It would take really long time till fresh food arrived to the front line soldiers biscuits and bread would often turn stale. Flour was in high demsnd so they would make bread with ground up turnips. The Kitchen staff would have two large pans and would have to cook everything in those pans so food would often taste like something else.
How was Daily Life in the Trenches?
It would often consist of firing to the enemy lines and take care of their gun repeatedly as if it got jammed in critical moments they would be dead. Often battles would take most of their time in the trenches.
