Who was Serbia’s ally and what did they do?
The Russian empire, they move armies towards Germany and Austria Borders when Austria-Hungary declares war
Who does Germany declare war with?
Russia & France
What was the Germans original plan for WW1?
To attack and destroy French army first then attack the Russian army
What was the German’s original plan supposed to accomplish?
To avoid a two front war
Why was Russia so slow?
They where big and had poor rail roads (Where late to start the I.R.)
What country did Germany have to go through to get to France and who did it bring into the war?
Belgium and it brought Great Britain into the war because Belgium was their land
Who where the Central Powers?
Germany, Austria, & the Ottoman Empire
Who where the Allies?
England, France, Russia, & Italy
Why did Italy switch to the Allies?
They switched b/c Germany started a “unjust” war
Who where the first to fight on the western front?
Germany v.s. France
What is considered the most important part of WW1, stopped Germany advance’s, and saved Paris?
The Battle of Marne the 1st
How did the French army stop the German army in they’re invasion?
They dug trenches
What was the condition of the Allies trenches?
They where temporary and not well built trenches
What were the condition of the German trenches?
They where better and more permanent, some of the trenches even had electricity
How could you describe the trench warfare?
There was lots of major losses with little land gained with almost every attack from both sides
What was “No Man’s Land”?
The area in between the German and French trenches where if you where to go out to you would most likely immediately got shoot at, blown up, gassed, etc.
How did the soldiers fight in close quarters with the enemy?
The devolved these club like weapons for close quarters combat
How would you describe the “trench way of life”?
- There was mud and rats everywhere
- Combat Stress/Shell Shock (after the battle they thought they could still hear the explosions and gun fire)
- Lots of Death and Diseases (also a nasty condition nicknamed “Trench Foot”)
