Wundt and Introspection Flashcards
1
Q
How were Wundts methods controlled?
A
He used very standardised instructions for all participants so the procedures could be repeated.
All introspections were recorded under strictly controlled conditions using the same stimulus each time.
2
Q
What are the problems of introspection?
A
Unscientific
Experimental results not reliably reproduced
Introspection was producing data that was subjective which makes it hard to establish general principles
3
Q
What is introspection?
A
Wundt used introspection which means ‘looking into’. Wundt argued that a person could look into their own mental processes to gain insights into how they operate.
