Wrist Extrinsic Flashcards
Flexor Carpi Ulnaris
Resist wrist flexion and ulnar deviation and tendon inserts onto pisiform trace tendon proximally to belly
Flexor carpi radialis
Resist flexion and radial deviation and tendon just lateral to palmaris longus
palmaris longus
Resist wrist flexion with cupped fingers and palpate tendon which starts above the wrist centrally
flexor digitorum superficialis
Wiggle fingers and palpate tendons in space between FCU and PL tendons and the belly is upper medial forearm
flexor digitorum profundus
Resist DIP flexion
Tendons – palpate palmar aspect middle phalanx.
Belly –palpate posterior border proximal ulna.
flexes fingers especially at DIPJ
flexor pollicis longus
Resist IP flexion and palpate tendon on palmar surface of proximal phalanx.
extensor carpi ulnaris
Resist wrist extension and ulnar deviation.
Palpation:
Tendon: just lateral ulnar styloid, inserting into metacarpal V. Trace tendon proximally to belly.
extensor carpi radialis longus
Resist extension and radial deviation.
Palpation: Both tendons cross wrist joint 1cm medial to radial styloid. Trace tendon proximally to belly.
extensor carpi radialis brevis
during wrist extension and radial deviation palpate just proximal to the dorsal aspect of the wrist and approximately 1cm medial to the radial styloid process, the tendon may be felt during extension and traced to the base of the third metacarpal, particularly when making a fist.
extensor digitorum
Put into action:
Resist finger extension /wiggle fingers.
Palpation: Tendons on backs of fingers. Trace tendon proximally to belly.
extensor digiti minimi
Resist extension little finger / wiggle little finger.
Palpation: Tendon crosses inferior radioulnar joint. Trace tendon proximally to belly.
extensor indicis
Resist index finger extension / wiggle finger.
Palpation: Tendon joins ED tendon just proximal to MCP joint from ulnar side.
extensor pollicis longus
Maximally extend thumb.
Palpation: Tendon forms medial border anatomical snuffbox.
extensor pollicis brevis
Maximally extend thumb.
Palpation: Tendon at lateral boundary of anatomical snuffbox. More posterior of 2 tendons
adductor pollicis longus
Maximally extend thumb.
Palpation: Tendon at lateral boundary of anatomical snuffbox. More anterior of 2 tendons
