Elbow and forearm Flashcards
Biceps Brachii
Have patient in sitting and resist flexion and supination of the arm and shoulder flexion and you will be able to see and palpate the muscle belly.
Bracialis
Resist flexion and supination of the arm and will be able to palpate muscle belly below and around biceps
Brachioradialis
Resist flexion of the arm from 90 degrees of flexion and have the arm in the midpoint between supination and pronation
Triceps
Resist elbow extension and palpate on the posterior aspect of the upper arm
Anconeus
Have arm in about 70 degrees elbow flexion and ask model to actively pronate and supinate their arm whilst keeping their index finger the axis of rotation and palpate between the lateral epicondyle and upper part of the ulna.
Pronator Teres
Sitting with elbow supported and in a small amount of flexion. Grasp arount the distal forearm and resist pronation and the muscle belly makes the medial border of the cubital fossa
Pronator quadratus
Sitting/pronation with elbow supported and arm in slight supination/pronation. Grasp around the distal forearm and resist pronation – cannot palpate
Supinator
Full extension of the elbow with arm in midposition of supination/pronation and resist supination and it can be palpated over the upper posterior 1/3 of the radius
