Wrist and Hand Arthrology Flashcards
1
Q
Distal Radial-Ulnar Joint
A
- Pivot-joint
- Head of the Ulna to ulnar notch of the distal Radius
Works with proximal radio-ulnar joint to produce pronation and supination
2
Q
Joints formed with the carpal bones
A
- Radio-Carpal Joint (ellipsoid joint)
- Mid Carpal Joints (saddle joint)
- Inter-carpal (plane joint)
- Carpal-metacarpal joints (CMJ)
(plane joints) - 1st CMJ of the thumb (saddle joint)
3
Q
Wrist Joint – Radio-Carpal Joint
A
Articulation between:
The lower end of the Radius
and
* Articular Disc
* Scaphoid
* Lunate
* Triquetrum
- Separated from ulna by triangular
fibrocartilage disc (like AC joint) - This cushions wrist when weight bearing
4
Q
The Triangular Fibrocartilage
Complex
A
- The TFCC unites the
ulna and the radius and
articulates with the
distal aspect of the head
of ulna - It attaches to the ulna
styloid process and
inferior ulna notch - The disc is thicker on its
peripheral edges
5
Q
Radiocarpal joint capsule
and synovial membrane
A
- Fibrous, completely enclosing the joint
- Attaches to distal radius to the proximal row of carpal bones
- Thickened medially and laterally by the collateral ligaments
- Lax synovial membrane
6
Q
Mid- Carpal Joints
A
Between proximal and distal row of carpal bones
7
Q
Joints hand and fingers overview
A
DIPs Distal Interphalangeal
PIPs proximal Interphalangeal
MCPs Metacarpophalangeal
8
Q
Carpo-metacarpal joint of thumb
A
- Flexion
- Extension
- Abduction
- Adduction
- Circumduction
- Opposition
Synovial Saddle Joint
9
Q
Joints of the wrist and hand
A
- Distal Radio-Ulnar joint (pivot
joint) - Radio-Carpal Joint (ellipsoid joint)
- Mid Carpal Joints (saddle joint)
- Inter-carpal (plane joint)
- Carpal-metacarpal joints (CMJ)
(plane joints) - 1 st CMJ of the thumb (saddle joint)
- Metacarpal-phalangeal (MCP)
(ellipsoid joints) - Proximal (PIP) and distal (DIP)
interphalangeal joints (hinge)
