Top layer of skin
redness

Charring & extreme damage of tissues
Third degree
Thermal or Electrical burns
Cool area by applying cold water for at least 30 minutes
Cover area with vaseline & cling film to stop the tissue drying out
Chemical burns
Wash with flowing tepid water for at least 15 minutes
If it is powder then brush it away
If it’s in the eye, flush with water or saline for 15 minutes
Go to the vet asap

Do not give any food or liquid
Get to vet asap
Keep any packaging or sample of what has been ingested
If the pet vomits take a sample of that
Fitting
Keep your hands away from the animals mouth.
Move any furniture to prevent the animal hitting its head
Do not pick the animal up to comfort it
Keep the room quiet & pull the curtains or dim the lights
Record the seizure time & if it started anywhere in the body
Do not startle it or throw water on it - you cannot shock an animal out of a fit
Monitor breathing & perform ABC & CPR if necessary
Diarrhoea & Vomiting
You can starve a dog or cat for 12/24 hours to settle diarrhoea
Feed bland chicken or rice to cat or dog or remove vegetable from rabbit or guinea pigs diet until stool returns to normal
re-introduce normal food slowly
Hyperthermia symptoms
High body temp Bright red tongue Red or pale mucus membranes (gums) Rapid panting Weakness Vomiting Shock Diarrhoea Coma
First aid Hyperthermia
Move to cooler area
Place wet towels over them
Check temp every 5 minutes until it becomes normal
Stop cooling & cover them so they don’t lose too much heat
Encourage to drink little & often
Get to the vets asap
Hypothermia symptoms
Low body temp Violent shivering & shaking Slow & shallow breathing Pale mucus membranes (gums) Weakness Shock Coma
First aid hypothermia
Animal needs to be warmed slowly!
Place animal in warm room
Wrap them in warm blankets (dryer for a few minutes)
Hot water bottle, fill only with warm water
Encourage to drink warm water little & often
Warming a patient can be painful so beware of scratches & bites
Get the animal to vets asap
