WOUNDS Flashcards
WHAT ARE THE 4 PHASES OF WOUND HEALING?
HAEMOSTASIS- vasoconstriction, platelet aggregation, leukocyte migration
INFLAMMATION- netrophils secrete chemicals to kill bacteria, macrophages engulf and digest foreign particles and necrotic debris,
PROLIFERATION- fibroblasts proliferation, collagen synthesis, ECM, granulation tissue formation, epithelialisation
REMODELLING- epithelialisation, ECM remodelling, increase wound strength
what factors affect wound healing?
age, type of wound, poor nutrition, infection, moisture, repeated trauma, poor blood circulation.
2 types of wound classification?
ACUTE- abrasions, lacerations, bites, surgical- short term, quick healing,
CHRONIC- a wound lasting more than 4-6 weeks, eg pressure injury, diabetic foot ulcer
what does T.I.M.E/S stand for?
T= tissue viability I= infection/inflammation- any signs? control. M= moisture- exudate? correct dressing E= edges- S= surrounding skin- oedema? sensation changes? fragile? colour?
pressure injury classification?
class 1= NON BLANCHABLE ERYTHEMA class 2= PARTIAL THICKNESS SKIN LOSS class 3= FULL THICKNESS SKIN LOSS class 4= FULL THICKNESS TISSUE LOSS
