Wound healing Flashcards
1
Q
Systemic factors affecting wound healing
A
- Age of patient, gender
- Circulatory status
- Nutrition
- zinc, vitamin Cetc are essential in wound healing
- Metabolic status
- Patients with DM and hypothyroidism have poor would healing
- Hormones
- Medication (Glucocorticoid steroids, NSAIDs, chemotherapy)
2
Q
Process of scar formation
A
hemostasis and inflammation → granulation tissue (vascular connective tissue composed of vascular capillaries, fibroblasts/myofibroblasts and a mixture of inflammatory cells) → collagen synthesis and deposition (leading to wound contraction) →remodelling→ scar formation
3
Q
granulation tissue formation
A
- angiogenesis (new blood vessel development from existing vessels)
- migration and proliferation of fibroblasts into site of injury
4
Q
angiogenesis
A
- migration of endothelial cells towards area of tissue injury
- endothelial cells divide to form solid sprouts
- sprouts develop a lumen by fusion of intracytoplasmic vacuoles containing RBCs
- formation of blood vessels (capillaries)
- vessels (capillaries) join to form an arborizing vascular network
