wound closure - skin flaps Flashcards
what is important to ensure when doing a skin flap?
there is adequate redundancy & vascularity of surrounding skin
basically make sure you can close the donor site
how long should the flap be?
at least as long as the wound but ideally 1.5x length
what are examples of pivotal flaps?
rotation, transposition and interpolation
what is a common complication of a subdermal plexus flap?
skin edge dehiscence
what is an axial pattern flap ?
pedicle flaps that rely on a direct cutaneous artery and vein at the base of the flap
which has a better survival rate, subdermal plexus flap or axial pattern flap?
axial pattern flap
which axial pattern flap is the most consistent and reliable ?
caudal superficial epigastric APF
what pattern flap is best for caudal abdomen, thigh, stifle, flank and inguinal area?
caudal superficial epigastric
what pattern flap is best used for shoulder, elbow, axilla and thorax areas ?
thoracodorsal APF
what pattern flap is best for sternal defects?
cranial superficial epigastric APF
what pattern flap is best for tibial defects?
genicular APF
