Euphemistic:
An innocuous word or expression used in place of one that may be found offensive or suggest something unpleasant.
Self-immolation:
The action of setting fire to oneself, especially as a form of protest or sacrifice.
Infidelity:
The action or state of being unfaithful to a spouse or other sexual partner.
Capricious:
Given to sudden and unaccountable changes of mood or behaviour.
Omnipotent:
(Of a deity) having unlimited power.
Ostensibly:
As appears or is stated to be true, though not necessarily so; apparently.
Desecration:
The violation or sacrilege of something.
Stoic:
A person who can endure pain or hardship without showing their feelings or complaining.
Semblance:
The outward appearance or apparent form of something, especially when the reality is different.
Subjugation:
: The action of bringing someone or something under domination or control.
Viability:
The ability to live, especially under certain conditions.
Perceptively:
To do something without insight or intelligence.
Antagonism:
Active hostility or opposition.
Cavalier:
Showing a lack of proper concern; offhand.
Concubine:
A woman who lives with a man but has a lower status than his wife or wives.
Keening:
The action of wailing in grief for a dead person.
Dirge:
A lament for the dead, especially one forming part of a funeral rite.
Prow:
The portion of a ship’s bow (front end) above water.
Threnody:
A lament (passionate expression of grief or sorrow).
Plundered:
Steal goods from (a place or person), typically using force and in a time of war or civil disorder.
Ravaged:
Severely damaged; devastated.
Consecrated:
(Of church or land) having been made or declared sacred.
Venerable:
Accorded a great deal of respect, especially because of age, wisdom, or character.
Zenith:
The time at which something is most powerful or successful. Antonym – nadir.
Lackey:
A servant or someone who behaves like one by obeying someone else’s orders or by doing unpleasant work for them.
