Machine guns, snipers, handgrenades, exploading shells and long range artillery forced soliders into hiding
why was the spade as important as a rifle
without a spade you cant dig a trench, therefore you are done
what is trenchfoot
a condition where your feet are constantly wet causing skin to roll off and skin to rot
why did war often result in stalemate
because neither side could push enough to end the war, they couldn’t break through each others trench system
Why were trenches zig zag
so a dude cant shoot down the trench and kill everyone, it also made an artillery’s shell only cause a small amount of casualties because they wouldn’t hit a lot of people
What was SAP
it was a small trench dug outwards from existing trenches to be used for a observation point, it could also be used to create a new trench line.
What is no mans land
The land between enemy trenches where life expectancy was short and it was super dangerous. You were very vulnerable to artillery and machine guns and rifle fire because of the mud, barbed wire and etc.
how did people break past and fight trenches without losing lots of lives?
they had teams of trench raiders who would sneak up to enemy trenches and drop grenades onto their enemy’s
-then using the chaos to find important documents or take prisoners to gather info
who were the German stormtroopers or sturmbattalions
They were elite infantry soliders hand picked to overcome enemy trenches. They were the crème de la crème( best of the best)
What was the German stormtroopers or sturmbattalions aim?
Their aim was to not take and hold a trench but to take a trench and them move on creating as much chaos as possible.
Allowing regular troops to follow behind them and hold the trench.
-Trained to use flamethrowers, trench morters, grenades and light fast firing rifles and pistols.
What is shellshock PTSD
is a condition of soldiers who broke down under the strain of war.
and left soldiers many years afterwards crying, in fear, have paralysis or insanity because of the stress and horror of the trenches.
How did military authorities at the time see this? (shellshock PTSD)
they saw the symptoms’ as cowardice and lack of a moral character.

what methods were used to treat Shellshock condition
Freudian techniques - talk and physical therapy
Electric shock - stimulating paralyzed nerves, vocal chords or limbs.
Shock therapy was more effective then Freudian techniques
