What happened do the aboriginal people during the Great Depression

A

The government was in charge to protect and assist them under the Indian act but did very little.

  • Most reserves lost much of thier lands and conditions remined poor
  • The government refused to recognize lands rights, where no treaties existed

and why was the league formed

A

Fred Loft in 1918

it gave them to ability and strength to negotiate with Indian affairs. - he forms the league by taking inspiration from the big union, he thinks if there’s a bigger league filled with people. Their voices will behead.

A

A stock is a way of buying a small part of a company, the price differs depending on how many people buy and sell the stock, if the price raises above the price you bough it at, you gain money, vice versa

what did buying in margin mean? and why did people do it?

A

borrowing money you dont have to buy stocks. they did it because they saw it as an easy profit, say it cost 2% intrest to borrow money, well than you go make an extra 15% profit from stocks, you can return the money and have 13% in prssssssofit.

why did the stock market crash

A

people started selling their stocks to cash in on their high value, many followed and so the stock market started to fall. (dont forget to add this part for full marks) and people did this because supply and demand dictated the value of stocks. if people buy stocks the value increases, if they sell it deacreases.

A
  • Farms started to go bankrupt as a drought began to hit the Canadian mid west.
  • Job markets began to decline causing product sales to decline, Thus causing more job losses

What was life in the depression

A

thousands fired and 100s of business shut down
farms dried up and then they walked away
thousands existed on pogey (government loan money) which brought shame to familys cuz it proved men could not support family.

Many wealthy and middle class with secure jobs noticed little change, but many others suffered.
