What was a stock?
A stock is a way of buying a small part of a company, the price differs depending on how many people buy and sell the stock, if the price raises above the price you bough it at, you gain money, vice versa
what did buying in margin mean? and why did people do it?
borrowing money you dont have to buy stocks. they did it because they saw it as an easy profit, say it cost 2% intrest to borrow money, well than you go make an extra 15% profit from stocks, you can return the money and have 13% in prssssssofit.
The crash of the market
september 29th, 1929
why did the stock market crash
people started selling their stocks to cash in on their high value, many followed and so the stock market started to fall. (dont forget to add this part for full marks) and people did this because supply and demand dictated the value of stocks. if people buy stocks the value increases, if they sell it deacreases.
What are two other reasons for the depression
- Farms started to go bankrupt as a drought began to hit the Canadian mid west.
- Job markets began to decline causing product sales to decline, Thus causing more job losses
