Why are some countries poor?

A
  • Climate - not enough rain for plants to grow or don’t have the facilities to catch the water
  • Location - bad climate and lack of natural resources
  • Population growth - large population for poor countries
  • Economic reasons - producers are exploited and debt
  • Politics - some countries are not politically stable
  • Corruptions - people in power keep all the wealth
  • Natural disasters - don’t have money to deal with problems

What are the Christian views on using wealth responsibility?

A

Christianity teaches that wealth should be shared with the poor.
Jesus praised a poor widow for giving what she had to charity as God provides what is rich in heaven.
Jesus also taught us to “love thy neighbour” and so we should help those less fortunate than ourselves.

What are the Muslim views on using wealth responsibility?

A

Islam teaches that the value of money is in what it can do rather than what it is.
Wealth is a blessing from Allah and should be used wisely for the benefit of the poor as well as oneself.
Families will support other families with interest free loans.
Zakat, the third pillar of Islam when 2.5% of wealth is given to charity.

Name a religious charity that helps solve world poverty

A
  • Islamic relief - A Muslim charity that give emergency aid to those after natural disasters. Provide long term aid to people who need it most. Many Muslims will donate their zakat and sadaqah to this charity.
  • Opportunity International - A Christian charity that use the teachings of the parable of the talents. They give money to help people start businesses and in time they repay the loan.
