Workshops: Age standardisation & Ethnicity data Flashcards
Crude death rate
No. of people dead from disease / population size
Age specific death rate
No. of people dead from disease / No. of people in the age group
Age standardised death rate calculation steps
- Find age specific death rate
- Apply findings to standrd popultion
- FInd no. of deaths in each age group
- Mulitply all expected death and divide by totoal no. of population
Ethnicity
Groups ppl identify with personally percieved
Heirarchy of detail in ethnic group
Level 1 - Least detailed
Level 4 - Most detailed
Total response output
Each respondent counted for each ethnic group they chose
NZ EUropean (1111) Maori (21111) Filipino (41111)
= European (1) Maori (2) Asian (4)
Total response output weakness
Creates complexity in funding based on population number
Issues with data interpretation as comparisons between groups include overlapping data
Prioritised output
Allocate single prioritised groups to individuals to reduce
= Maori (2) at level 1 as this is prioritised in NZ
Prioritised output advantages
Small ethnic groups aren’t swamped by huge European group
Prioritising funding for MoH
Easy data as individuals appear only once
Prioritised output disadvantages
Over simplifies and biases results and so overrepresents groups
Defies self identification of ethnicity
Sole combination output
Solle ethnic catgeory for individuals with one ethnicity
Combined category for individuals with multiple ethinicty
= Three groups
Sole combination output advantage
Ethnicity count is equavilent to the number of participants
Complies with self identification of ethnicity
Sole combination output disadvantage
Uncommon method as some ethnicities won’t be identifiable due to combination categories
