Working memory model Flashcards
1
Q
Phonological loop
A
- primary acoustic store (holds auditory memory traces, very limited a auditory information decays very rapidly)
- articulatory loop revives memory traces by rehearsing them, rehearsed by talking without vocalising
- phonological similarity effect- more difficult to remember similar sounding words
2
Q
Visuospatial scratchpad
A
- holds information we see and manipulates spatial information
- anything that uses spatial awareness
- said to be divided into visual, spatial and kineasthetic
- limited in capacity as it holds approximately 3-4 objects
3
Q
The central executive
A
- control other components of the working memory
- supervisory system that controls all cognitive processes
- limited capacity ability to deal with different types of sensory information
4
Q
Evalution
A
supporting evidence - Corsi block experiment more errors in tapping when number of boxes increases- visuospatial sketchpad has limited capacity
validity- model incomplete- episodic buffer added to model as a backup store
elements ignored - wmm only gives information as to what happens in the stm store proposed by atkinson and shriffin but does not offer an explanation to ltm - limited in how it can be used to explain aggression
