Q

Phonological loop

A
  • primary acoustic store (holds auditory memory traces, very limited a auditory information decays very rapidly)
  • articulatory loop revives memory traces by rehearsing them, rehearsed by talking without vocalising
  • phonological similarity effect- more difficult to remember similar sounding words

Q

Visuospatial scratchpad

A
  • holds information we see and manipulates spatial information
  • anything that uses spatial awareness
  • said to be divided into visual, spatial and kineasthetic
  • limited in capacity as it holds approximately 3-4 objects

The central executive

A
  • control other components of the working memory
  • supervisory system that controls all cognitive processes
  • limited capacity ability to deal with different types of sensory information

Q

Evalution

A

supporting evidence - Corsi block experiment more errors in tapping when number of boxes increases- visuospatial sketchpad has limited capacity
validity- model incomplete- episodic buffer added to model as a backup store
elements ignored - wmm only gives information as to what happens in the stm store proposed by atkinson and shriffin but does not offer an explanation to ltm - limited in how it can be used to explain aggression
