Three central-life shaping processes
Production: Paid work, the security of our position, saving for the future, our relationship to the economy
Reproduction: social reproduction of dependents -children parents, relatives, partners as well as children
Distribution: How services are rendered and distributed
Labour force segregation
Concentration of women in service and sales, health and education; women have been in particular types of jobs in terms of labour
Instrucmental care work
Women continue to perform the majority of this care work: housework, meal prep, etc
Affective care work
Kinship work (ex writing and sending birthday cards, gifts) undertaking the psychological responsibilities for others
Vertical segregation
Under (over) representation of a clearly identifiable group of workers in occupations or sectors at the top of an ordering based on desirable attributes
Horizontal segregation
Under (over) representation of a certain group in occupations or sectors. Refers to the concentration of women and men in professions or sectors
Wage gap
Wage gap is usally due to discrimination. Over time, the unexplained portion has declined
Proactive Pay equity
Require employers and unions to take positive action to examine pay systems and eliminating discrimination in wages
