Workers Compensation
is where an employer is liable to the employee for injuries or diseases sustained by the employee during the normal course of business
Workers Compensation Costs
is paid by the employer and is business expense
Temporary workers
are not eligible to collect workers comp
They are usually independent contractors or work for another employment agency
Under workers comp law
Any employee is entitled to WC benefits regardless of fault as long as injury is NOT
1) self inflicted
2) result of a fight or intoxication
Acceptance of workers comp benefits
prevents an employee from suing employer in civil court
Employer is required to
1) provide WC coverage to all employees
2) cover cost of injuries to employees
Examples of workers compensation benefits are
1) Burial expenses
2) Cost of prosthetic devices
3) monthly payments to suriving dependent children
