Work Efficiency Flashcards
How do you not get side tracked
Laser focus (on correct task)
Why is laser focus good
- you only do correct tasks
- you avoid procrasination “work”
- you avoid autopiloting
- greedy choices are best, you often think you need something, but dont need it later anymore (eg. “i need to do this later task now” -> “nvm this inbetween thing made it redundant”). Also because “later” topics are easier to learn once youve built good base knowledge, which comes by working step-by-step doing things in correct order. The earlier tasks are often easier
- in theory, your sum work over years reflects what you do now. So it can consist of 100% minmaxed correct work, or 50% half-efficient work
What does good setup do (sleeping well, working out, diet..)
Improves pretty much everything you do, and how you work. A general efficiency boost.
An OP multiplier for Anything you do.
Maybe 2x multiplier, if you dont do this and live a normal/random setup lifestyle, itll take a 2 days to get 1 days worth of progress.
The real issue is, not doing this doesnt cause immediate losses, but kills long-term improvement, meaning your “success” goes from 3y -> 20y+. So you could say its a 7x years decrease long-term
Whats a repeating key component needed for laser focus to work
Reorienting.
Even if you laser focus on 1 task, if its not the most efficient one, ive noticed your progress is abt. 7x slower, so progress 1 day = 7 days work needed
Good strat for reorient, ask yourself “how can i achieve my next short term goal, today” as you tend to set them in 1-2wk range.
So youre basically asking how to cancel the 7-14x inefficiency we talked about.
Dont ask yourself how to achieve your entire life in a day, nor a tiny task. You cant achieve one and the others irrelevant. Its about finding the max efficiency you Can achieve within a day, and this is a very close contender. Bc if ur 7x slower not doing it, then youd be 7x faster doing it correctly. Duh
How bad is watching 30s youtube videos inbetween work, how much efficiency do you lose?
In my experience, about 1 day = 5 days needed. So 5x efficiency loss
Its only this bad because it breaks your laser focus, you start doing random shit after, thats not Peak work level. Aka its the opposite of Reorienting. Removing your pure direction.
It happens bc you lose focus, and your short term work memory somewhat. But focus loss is the bigger part as to why you partially lose your direction accuracy.
If your laser focus direction didnt break, itd only be like 1 day = 2 days needed, bc you still lose work memory.
But youre not really capable of this rn, keep it as 5 days loss.
Its only this bad because like corn, you tend to do this a lot if you do it, so its not just one 30s video, its like 30 vids/day.
And hey, if 30s videos are this bad, imagine what 10min videos do. They cost you hours, and destroy focus. Easy >10x efficiency löss
How can you reorient less often without losing track of direction
By having a step-by-step roadmap of your goal and how to overall get there. Not a task list, but a set of checkpoints/progression.
With one, you can just refer back to it instead of remaking plan 247. Every business uses roadmaps/plans.
Remake it once in a while, either when you feel its become inaccurate, or if you complete the goal (rare)
Reorienting is insanely annoying/hard without this. This strat makes it easy. Do this or suffer inability to properly redirect -> 7x work efficiency loss
Whats a good daily strat to make refocusing/reorienting happen automatically
Thinking of how youll spend your day, in advance. Really spending time processing it until you 100% remember each step.
This way your “laser focus” is correct, and on your mind. Itll spike immediately if you start doing wrong things.
Recommend planning your entire day in advance, maybe yesterday, maybe in the morning.
Like timeboxing, but not doing it rigidly.
