Work and Power - L29 Flashcards
what is work
the force we use to move a mass.
3 principles of work
1). a force can only do work if it causes displacement.
2). a force can do work only for the duration of the displacement
3). only the force acting in the direction of displacement can do work.
when is work pos
when object moves in direction of applied movement
negative work
when object moves opposed direction of applied force.
what does power measure
the rate at which we do work.
what is power limited by
the rate of atp transition
on a force-velocity graph when is max power produced.
around one-third of max shortening velocity.
instantaneous power
highest power value achieved during an observed movement.
what is power production
when both angular velocity and angular acceleration have the same sign. this constitutes the energy flow from muscle to arm segment.
what is power absorption
when angular velocity or angular acceleration have different signs. energy flows from the arm segment to the muscle.
