Energy - L30-31 Flashcards
what is energy
the capacity or ability to do work
different forms of energy
thermal, chemical, nuclear, elctromagnetic and mechanical
kinetic energy
related to a bodys motion, can be linear or rotational
Ek
linear kinetic energy
E<k
rotational kinetic energy
two forms of potentional energy
gravitational potentional anf deformation energy
what is gravitatioanl energy
potential of a body to do work as a function of height which respect to a reference surface where g is gravitational acceleration
what is deformation energy
energy or strain energy, which is the energy stored in a body by virtue of its deformation.
what is TME
total mechanical energy is a sum of the linear kinematics, angular kinematics and positional potential energy.
is gravity a conservation force
yes, therefor when gravity is the only acting external force a body’s mechanism will remain constant.
how does gravity being a conservation on energy work with a ball dropping
if gravity is the only external force on the ball, max velocity = max kinetic energy.
how does the conservation of energy work on a gymnast doing a flip.
draw the graph. the PE + KE line will stay the same but the PE and KE will fluctuate.
what is the most energy efficient form of locomotion?
walking.
why is walking the most energy efficient form of locomotion?
RFD, velocity of ankle motion and the length of your leg??
what is required to transfer energy
work, e.g. we have to do work on the club to then produce energy to transfer to the ball.
