Q

What is Work?

A

From a mechanical perspective, work is defined as the
force applied against a resistance multiplied by the
displacement in the direction of that force
W = F x d
can be negative or positive
work is defined by force over a distance so *** a person on a treadmill does not theoretically do work because they are stationary

Q

what is power?

A

Power
Power is the amount of mechanical work performed in a
given time
Power is “how quickly or slowly the work is done”
“the rate of doing work”
-P = Work
∆ time
-P = Fd
∆ t

Q

2 types of energy what are they?

A

Energy
Energy is defined as the capacity or ability to do work
* Forms: light, heat, nuclear, electrical and mechanical
We are concerned with two types of mechanical energy:
1. Kinetic energy (KE)
2. Potential Energy (PE

Q

what is negative work?

A

Negative Work
* Negative work is done when the object moves in an
direction opposite to the force that is acting on it
* ie. eccentric contraction
it is in the opposites direction

Q

define positive work

A

Positive work is done when the object moves in the
same direction as the force that is acting on it
* ie. concentric contraction
