walking and running kinematics Flashcards
what is gait?
Gait is the entire process of the running or walking cycle composed of different phases.
what phases are common to both running and walking?
1) Footstrike/Heelstrike: The heel of forward foot touches the
ground
2) Toe-Off: Only the big toe of the forward limb in contact with
the ground
3) Double Limb Support: Both limbs are in contact with the
ground simultaneously
what is the difference between running and walking ?
Running involves changes in joint angles in the ankles, hips, knees and trunk
what are the phases in running?
initial contact (heel strike)
1)absorption phase
2)mid-stance
3) propulsion
toe-off
3)double float (airborne)
4) mid-swing
5)terminal swing- legs swing forward
double float when both feet are on the ground
initial contact (repeats) heel strike
what is heel strike in running?
when heel touches ground
what is toe off?
Only the big toe of the forward limb in contact with
the ground
60% of gait cycle is what_____?
stance phase
absorption
propulsion
40% of running cycle_____?
swing phase
initial swinf
terminal swing
stance phase is______?
support phase
swing phase is_______?
recovery phase
