Work And Power Flashcards
What is work?
When a force moves an object it does work and energy is transferred to the object
The 3 elements of work are?
Energy supplied
Work done
Energy transferred
What is the relationship between energy transferred and work done
Amount of energy transferred (J) = Work done (J)
How does distance and force affect work?
The greater the force, and the greater the distance moved, the more work is done.
Where does energy go when work is done?
-Energy never disappears it’s transferred or transforms from one form to another
What’s the formula for work?
Work= Force x Distance
W= F x D
What’s the unit of work?
Joules (J) is the SI unit for work
Newtons per meter (N/m) could also be used as a unit for work
What’s the formula for force?
Work
Force = —————
Distance
W F=. —- D
What’s the formula for distance?
Work
Distance=. ————
Force
What’s the unit for force?
Newtons (N)
What’s the unit for distance?
Meter (m)
What’s the formula for efficiency ?
Useful energy output
Efficiency= ————————————. x 100%
energy input.
What is power?
The rate at which work is done
What is the unit of power
Watt (w)
What is another unit for power?
One watt (w) = Joule/second (J/s)
