Ohms Law Flashcards
What is current?
The path an electric current follows
What is the unit for current?
amp
A
What equipment measures current?
An ammeter measures the amount of current flowing past a certain point
How does current work?
If pressure is applied at one end of a wire, then electricity will fly out of the other end.
What is voltage?
The pressure that pushes electricity through the current
What happens to a current when you increase voltage?
Increasing voltage with a higher-volt battery increases the current
How does resistance affect current?
Increasing resistance reduces the current.
What is a series circuit?
-A series circuit is a circuit in which resistors are arranged in a chain
-Current in a series circuit is the same at all parts in a circuit
-The total voltage supplied by the cell is divided to all parts
Eg: total voltage is 12 and there are three lamps connected to the circuit
So 12/3 = 4
What is a parallel circuit?
-The parallel circuit splits into each routes
-Current is divided by number of routes
Eg the current supplied is 12 and there are 3 routes
12/3 = 4
-Voltage is the same everywhere
