A

Final Stable Syllable

A

At the end of a word, a sound and the ending -le make up a syllable. If a consonant + -le syllable is next to an open syllable, the vowel in the open syllable stays long. If a consonant + -le is next to a closed syllable, the vowel in the closed syllable stays short.
