Why was the Edo Period so revoloutionary in Japan?
The Edo Period 1600-1868
Samurai had too much money and power, leaders wanted to reduce their influence and without financial backing they did just that. This caused an increase in the middle class, now it is their taste that determines the artistic market.
First time in Japanese history, people other than the Elite Classes had time and money to spend, and media was being created with them in mind, so woodblock prits and Kabuki theatre, images of beautiful women and ghost stories all intended for them.
