A

Qin Shi Huang Di

First Qin Emporer. He died unexpectedly in 210 only 11 years after he took power, but he had an entire Army to protect him in the afterlife. His tomb a mausoleum symbolising the centre of the world.

A

The mausoleum of Qin Shi Huangisthe largest preserved site in China. It is a unique architectural ensemble whose layout echoes the urban plan of the capital, Xianyang, with the imperial palace enclosed by the walls of the city, themselves encircled by other walls.

Each part of the soldiers uniquely made, every hand, every head but mass made and produced. Each part of the process individual also- the clay making, then firing then painting. 100s of variations based on how the soldiers parts were individually assembled.

Why was the terracotta army made from clay?

A

Cheap, easily fixable, easily accesible. How were they so well preserved? The soil in Qin was so alkaline it maintained the clay. Also the fact they were kept cool and dry underground.

Importance of bronze vessels in ancient China: China’s Bronze Age

A

Soon ater 2000 BC began China’s bronze age, during the Shang dynasty where Bronze technology and writing, complex cities and complex state structures also began. Consort of the Shang Dynasty, Fu Hao’s toumb contained 468 bronze objects.

Molten bronze poured into initial mould, then clay pressed into the hardened bronze to make more moulds. Bronze vessels documenting important events, and used ceremoniously.
