- Zeus wanted to punish mankind by giving them something they they will welcome

- When he left, he took Helen with him because that is what Aphrodite had promised

- real Helen was sent to Egypt where she stayed for the war that ensued
- in this version Helen in neither the victim or villain, justa a pawn in a game played by the Gods

- Helen is weaving
- She deeply regrets her decision to leave Sparta with Paris
- regrets the suffering she has caused

- Romulus invited the Sabine women to a festival which he had planned to capture them
- needed women in his new kingdom and to keep it going

- she was the daughter of Spurius Tarpeius
- when she was collecting water, she was bribed with jewellery to give King Tatius entry to the city
- having betrayed the sabines she was killed

- he was so impressed by Lucretia’s beauty and virtue he resolved to sleep with her
- when Collanitus was away, he threatened Lucretia with her life and reputation (very shameful for a Roman matrona to have sex with a slave)
