19th Amendment
It granted the women the right to vote known as women suffrage. They were able to go to college and learn to drive and work. But once WWI was over, they were loosing their jobs due to business wanting men than women.
Role of Women in Prohibition
Prohibition represented an attack on all vices associates with the ubiquitous western saloon: drunkenness, prostitution, and crime. Women supported prohibition quietly. Alcohol was viewed as the root of many problems like violence against women. Women formed a solid demographic group almost completely against alcohol. Their support at the National Prohibition swayed the motion into passing it.
Eleanor Roosevelt
Is married to Franklin Roosevelt. She emerged as the champion of the dispossessed. And the conscious of the New Deal. She influenced the policies of the national government. She joined the Women’s Trade Union League and the League of Women Voters. The many reformers made her the most activist First Lady. She was one of the most controversial and consequential public figures.
Flappers
It was another name for prostitute. Women who were in bobbed tresses and short dresses. Young women appeared with hemlines elevated, stockings rolled, breasts taped flat, cheeks rouged, and lips a crimson gash that held a dangling cigarette and drank. They symbolized a yearned-for and devil-may-care independence. They were a goddess of the era and loved jazz music. They were more sexually free than previous generations.
