How is oestrogen receptor positive breast ca managed in pre-menopausal women?
1st line = Tamoxifen (selective oestrogen receptor modulator/SERM)
2nd line = Goserelin (gonadotrophin releasing hormone agonist, releases ovarian function)
How is oestrogen receptor positive breast ca managed in post-menopausal women?
aromatase inhibitos
- letrozole
- anastrozole
Side effects of tamoxifen?
hot flushes
menstrual disturbance (irregular bleeding, amenorrhoea)
VTE
endometrial cancer
side effects of aromatase inhibitors?
osteoporosis
hoth flushes
myalgia/arthralgia
insomnia

Management of HER2 +ve breast ca?
Trastuzumab
Two types of physiological (functional) ovarian cysts?
follicular cyst (most common, regresses after a few menstrual cycle)
corpus luteum cyst (failure of corpus luteum to break down when pregnancy doesnt occur, fills with blood/fluid so more likely to bleed than follicular)
most common benign ovarian tumour in women over 30?
dermoid cyst (mature cystic teratoma)
Most common benign epithelial ovarian tumour?
serous cystadenoma
which type of ovarian tumour can cause pseudomyxoma peritonei if it ruptures?
Mucinous cystadenoma
when can fibroadenomas just be monitored and when should they be excised?
<3cm in young women can be monitored
>3cm usually excised
