what is capput seccedaneum?
soft scalp swelling seen in newborns due to the pressure of the presenting part on the cervix during delivery
normally resolves in 1-2 days
features of caput seccedaneum?
soft swelling
poor margins
crosses suture lines
what is a cephalohaematoma?
sub-periosteal swelling seen in scalp of newborns due to rupture of blood vessels during delivery
takes months to resolve
how is cephalohaematoma differentiated from capput seccedaneum?
cephalohaematoma swelling doesnt cross suture lines and takes several hours to develop wherea capput seccedaneum is present from birth
