WMM Studys Flashcards
WMM strength
Shallice and Warrington on patient KF
Who suffered from amnesia
Found KFs recall in STM for digits was poor when read aloud in contrast to visually seeing digits
Suggesting there must be diffrent stored for STM
One to process visual visual information.
And one to process auditory
PL was damaged
VSS was intact
WMM strength
Studies of dual task performance support STM have limited capacity
Found PPTs had more difficulty performing 2 visual tasks at the same time than performing one of the visual tasks with verbal task
Supporting WMM because it suggests that both visual tasks are competing for limited capacity for limited capacity of the same slave system (VSS)
Whereas doing visual+verbal task simultaneously they are delegated to seperate slave systems (vss and ps) as there is no competition for capacity
Increasing credibility of WMM
WMM weakness
Case study to support is flawed
Low population validity as it a case study of only one person
Difficult to generalise to wider population as their STM may operate differently
Limiting the support that the research provides for WMM
