Active Ingredient
The component of a drug which produces the intended beneficial effect.
Adverse Drug Reaction
ADR
A broader term that includes any adverse reaction either within the therapeutic range or as the result of toxic accumulation.
Contraindication
Circumstances or conditions in which the drug should not be used.
Controlled Substance

A protective measure taken in advance.
Proprietary Name
Trade name or brand name; a unique a manufacturer gives its particular brand of drug.
Teratogenic
an agent that can disturb the development of the embryo or fetus
Carcinogenic
Potential to cause cancer.
Cytotoxic
toxic to living cells
