Wk 1 Flashcards
What plane splits the body into left and right
Sagittal
What plane splits the body into sup and inf
Axial
What plane splits the body into ant and post
Coronal
What is contrast resolution?
difference between scales (grey)
How is a CT image formed?
X-ray rotates around patient, amount of attenuated radiation is converted to a signal and is converted from analogue to digital data to construct image.
What is CT’s fundamental principle?
density of tissue passed by x-ray beam can be measured from calculation of attenuation coefficient
Why do bones appear bright on CT?
they transmit little x-ray emission
How does an MRI work?
non-ionising radiation uses magnets to deflect water molecules. When molecules return, energy is released that translates into an image.
What is PET imaging?
intravenous injection of positron-emitting radiopharmaceutical allows systemic distribution scanning for accumulation of radiopharmaceutical.
Superior
Upper part of a structure
inferior
lower part of structure
anterior
front of body, moving in front
posterior
towards back of body
Medial
toward midline
lateral
away from midline
