Simla Conference
After VE Day Wavell travelled to London to broker new deal for India
Wavell returned to New Delhi with a new scheme similar to that offered on Cripps Mission
Balanced representation of communities including equal representation for Hindus and Muslims
Conference arranged held at Simla (Viceroys summer home) and INC leaders released from prison to attend along with Muslim League
Simla Conference Conclusion
Reached deadlock on the issue of how Muslim members of the new Executive Council were to be chosen. Jinnah insisted that they must all be nominated by Muslim League
INC refused to accept and clung to idea that INC could represent all
Wavell 14th July adjourned the conference and unable to break the deadlock between INC nd Muslim League
The New Labor Party 1945
Conservatives out 1945 and replaced by Labor- Atlee
Atlee began to create and implement British policy that would lead to independent India
Close connections with INC and Labor Party
Muslim League did not have this relationship
