Britian worried ‘peasant Revolution’ went to war as the French new government very aggressive and began to invade. Worried when France invaded Flanders due to trade with Ghent/Antwerp. William Pitt insisted France withdraw from Holland but they didn’t

Industrial Revolution enable economic development- allowed Britian to afford payment. 50 years built up wealth.

The Flanders Campaign 1792-95

A

Strengths/weaknesses:

  • Weak supply lines- French strong supply
  • Unprepared- French prepared
  • Inefficient in battle

Reason for battle- Flanders occupied by France trade links. Want to keep France out of Belgium.

Outcome- French success, British heavy defeat, Arthur Wellesley learnt a lot from battle
