Wiring Systems And Enclosures Flashcards
What are the different containment systems?
Cable baskets
Cable tray
Conduit
Steel conduit
PVC conduit
Flexible conduit
Where are cable baskets used?
To hold basic insulation as they can be easily damaged e.g PVC, IP data cables, MICC
Where are cable trays used?
Used for small industrial and commercial installations. E.g SWA, MICC, soft skinned cables
Where is conduit used?
Where insulated conductors are contained as they offer flexible mechanical protection
Common conduit sizes?
20mm, 25mm, 32mm
Where is steel conduit used?
Heavy guage or sold drawn installations. They are used for special gas tight, explosion proof, or flame proof installations
Where is PVC conduit used?
Heavy guage impact tube, they are able to be bent by hand using a bending spring and help prevent damp and corrosion
Where is flexible conduit used?
Typically used for the final connection to motors. Prevent vibrations of the motor from being transmitted throughout the installation
What is trunking?
A square or rectangular enclosure with a removable lid
Where is metallic trunking used?
Where damp condition may be encountered
Where is non metallic trunking used?
Where easy installation is preferable and there is a risk of corrosion
