What are the electricity at work regulations used for
It requires people in control of electrical systems to ensure they are safe to use and are maintained in a safe condition.

What is a permit to work?
It is a specialised safe system of work that ensures potentially dangerous work is completed safely
It is also a means of communication between those controlling the danger and those carrying out work
Essential features of a PTW?
Who is allowed to authorise the jobs and who is responsible for safety precautions
Only be issued by a technically competent person, who is also authorised by the employer
Provision of training and instruction, use and closure of permits
Monitoring and auditing to ensure the PTW system works as intended
Clear identification of hazardous work
Identification of tasks, risk assessments, task duration, and any additional activity or control measure
What should a PTW state?
Serial number
Name of person in charge of the job
Declaration that the apparatus was dead, isolated, and connected to earth if possible
The points at which the system is isolated
The position caution notices have been placed
A PTW should also include?
Position a safety lock has been placed
Description of work being carried out
Any diagrams
Signature from authorised engineer with the time and date
Signature of recipient accepting the work
Why do we need a risk assessment?
It must form part of the employers policy of health and safety
What are the 5 steps to be taken in a risk assessment
Identify the hazards
Decide who may be harmed and how
Evaluate the risks and decide on precautions
Record your findings and implement them
Review your risk assessment and update if necessary
What is a method statement?
It describes what work is going to be carried out in a logical sequence. It should be clear and uncomplicated and a benefit to those carrying out the work and their immediate supervisors
