What is the function of Iron?
Iron forms haemoglobin in the red blood cells which transport oxygen in the blood.
What symptoms of iron deficiency anaemia
tiredness, headaches, palpatations, lack of energy, lack of concentration.
Name the three bowel disorders
Diverticular disease, constipation, bowel cancer

liver, kidneys, red meat, black pudding

What is dental caries?
caused when plaque bacteria combine with sugars in food to produce acids that erode tooth enamel
plaque occurs when
sugars in food and drinks react with and dissolve the minerals on the enamel.
How to stop dental caries
reduced sugar diet, avoid snacking, Teeth should be thoroughly brushed twice a day and flossed to remove any build up of plaque, visiting the dentist every six months, using toothpaste with added fluoride.
What diet and lifestyle advice is given to reduce the risk of coronary heart disease
diet low in salt,
don’t smoke
Don’t drink too much, (High alcohol consumption can also damage the heart by increasing blood pressure)
Eat 5 a day - lots of fruit and vegetables
Reduce saturated fats, increase unsaturated fats such as oily fish.
Increase physical activity
eat more fibre rich foods to reduce cholesterol
What is diabetes?
the body is not breaking down sugar properly. The pancreas is not producing insulin to regulate the sugars in the blood.
What is Type 1 diabetes
It is when the body does not produce insulin before the age of 40. Insulin injections, balanced diet and regular exercise.
What is Type 2 diabetes
Not enough insulin is being produced. Occurs normally in people over 40 . It can be linked to being overweight. It is controlled by changes to lifestyle, diet, exercise and loosing weight. Tablets.
