What is wine?
It is an alcoholic beverage obtained from the juice of freshly gathered grapes then fermented of which is carried out in a district of origin according to local tradition and practice?
What is viticulture?
It is the growing of grapes for production of wine which is strongly affected by the terroir in which the vine is grown
What is vinification
Also known as wine making is the production of wine that starts with the harvest and continues with fermentation, which converts to alcohol and is completed by bottling.
What is terroir
Terroir identifies a wine production area describing the unique combination of environmental factors that influence the character and quality of wine
What is maceration
If the process in wine making we crashed grapes are left in contact with the grape juices during fermentation allowing the extraction of colour flavour tannins and other compound from the grape skin into the fermenting wine
What is pumping over?
Is an essential wine making technique that helps to optimize extraction and ensure the quality and consistency of a finished wine?
What is malolatic fermentation?
Malolactic fermentation takes place after alcoholic fermentation it conversion of malic acid into lactic acid plus a little carbon dioxide and reduces the overall acidity of wine
What four things are considered when looking at the terroir of a vineyard.
• Climate - overall weather pattern in a particular region
• Soil - the geological and chemical properties of the soil
• Topography - the physical features of the land and orientation towards the sun
• Human influence - the cultural and agricultural practices employed by grape growers and wine makers of the area
