Windshear Flashcards
Considerations for windshear on takeoff
TOGA Thrust
Longest runway
Recognizing windshear (3 things)
“SPEED, SPEED, SPEED”
“WINDSHEAR, WINDSHEAR, WINDSHEAR” with red WINDSHEAR on FD
Unacceptable flight deviations
Windshear unacceptable flight deviations
+/-:
15 KIAS
500 FPM
5 deg pitch
1 dot on glideslope
And/or
Unusual engine thrust setting for a significant period of time
Windshear escape (PF)
TOGA
A/P OFF
FOLLOW F/D
(If no F/D, 17.5)
No config changes
Monitor vert speed and alt
Do not try to regain lost airspeed
Windshear escape (PM)
Assure TOGA
Verify actions
Monitor and call out VSI, RADALT
“GO AROUND WINDSHEAR AHEAD”
(321)
Warning on approach.
PFD: W/S AHEAD (red)
ND: Windshear icon.
Do: TOGA, normal go-around
“WINDSHEAR AHEAD, WINDSHEAR AHEAD.”
(321)
Warning on takeoff.
PFD: W/S AHEAD (red)
ND: Windshear icon.
Do: Reject takeoff
“MONITOR RADAR DISPLAY” on approach
(321)
Caution on approach.
PFD: W/S AHEAD (amber)
ND: Windshear icon.
Do: TOGA, normal go-around
“MONITOR RADAR DISPLAY” on takeoff
(321)
Caution on takeoff.
PFD: W/S AHEAD (amber)
ND: Windshear icon.
Do: Rejected takeoff
Predictive windshear inhibited:
Between 100kts and up to 50 feet RA
Windshear on takeoff, initiate rotation no later than:
2000 feet from departure end
If moderate or greater turbulence expected:
Use ignition for takeoff or approach
TOPR for windshear conditions
