Windows Aero

Windows Logo Key + TAB
is a discontinued widget engine for Microsoft. It was introduced with Windows Vista, in which it features a sidebar anchored to the side of the desktop. Its widgets can perform various tasks, such as displaying the time and date.
Windows Desktop Gadgets
A security component in Windows operating systems. It enables users to perform common tasks as non-administrators and as administrators without having to switch users, log off, or use Run As.
User Account Control
A full volume encryption feature included with Microsoft Windows versions starting with Windows Vista. It is designed to protect data by providing encryption for entire volumes. By default, it uses the AES encryption algorithm in cipher block chaining or XTS mode with a 128-bit or 256-bit key.
BitLocker
A technology included in Microsoft Windows that allows taking manual or automatic backup copies or snapshots of computer files or volumes, even when they are in use.
Shadow Copy
Windows 8.1 & 10 tool that allows for easy automated backups of your data and it works with a number of devices on which data can be stored.
File History
Allows the user to revert their computer’s state to that of a previous point in time, which can be used to recover from system malfunctions or other problems.
System Restore
A disk caching software component developed by Microsoft for Windows Vista and included in later versions of the Windows operating system.
ReadyBoost
A software mechanism in which a software either emulates an older version of software, or mimics another operating system in order to allow older or incompatible software or files to remain compatible with the computer’s newer hardware or software.
Compatibility Mode
A specialized file transfer program developed by Microsoft which allows users of the Windows operating system to transfer personal files and settings from a computer running an earlier version of Windows to a computer running a newer version.
Easy Transfer
An anti-malware component of Microsoft Windows. It was first released as a downloadable free antispyware program for Windows XP, and was later shipped with Windows Vista and Windows 7.
Windows Defender
A firewall component of Microsoft Windows. It was first included in Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. Prior to the release of Windows XP Service Pack 2 in 2004, it was known as Internet Connection Firewall.
Windows Firewall
A notification center included with Windows Phone 8.1, Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile. It was first introduced with Windows Phone 8.1 in July 2014, and was introduced to the desktop with the launch of Windows 10 on July 29, 2015. The Action Center replaces the charms in Windows 10.
Action Center
A component of Microsoft’s Windows NT line of operating systems that lets administrators and users view the event logs on a local or remote machine. In Windows Vista, Microsoft overhauled the event system.
