Coriolis Effect
The rotation of Earth causes objects in the northern hemisphere to deflect to the right objects in the Southern Hemisphere are deflected to the left.
Jet Streams
A band of very fast moving wind caused by differences in temperature.
el Nino
Warm ocean temperature located near the coast of South America. May cause droughts.
La Nina
Cold ocean temperature on the coast of South America. May cause more precipitation.
Prevailing Winds
Winds that blow away from the equator, brings warmer air to the poles.
Prevailing westerlies
Winds that blow west to east, blow away from the equator, and found over the U.S.A.
Polar Easterlies
Winds that blow east to west, and are found near the pole.
Doldrums
A spot near the equator were there are very few winds.
Trade winds
Winds that blow towards the equator, bring cooler air to the equator.
Gulf Stream
A ocean current found in the Atlantic that brings warmer temperatures to the east coast of the U.S.
Convection Current
When the circulation of wind blows to the land or sea but then the heat rises.
Land Breeze
It happens during the night. The wind blows to the sea and then the heat rises.
Sea Breeze
It happens during the night. The wind from the sea cools down the land.
