Who is Wilhelm Rontgen?
He was a German professor of Physics in his birth-place, Germany.
How did he discover X-RAY?
He was doing a scientific experiment and that by chance he discovered X-RAY.
When was the first X-RAY discovered?
The first X-RAY was discovered in November 1885.
What did he use to carry out the experiment?
He used a long, glass tube to carry out his experiment.
How did he carry out the experiment?
He passed catode ray through the tube, they left an image on paper covered in a chemical solution.
How did carry out an X-RAY?
He repeated the experiment, he put his hand in front of the paper, it left an image of his hands (bones).
How else did he prove his discovery?
To prove his discovery he ex-rayed his wife’s hand.
How soon were X-RAY’s used after the discovery?
X-RAY’s were used in hospitals within one year of discovery.
Dangerous Job?
People working with X-RAY machines were exposed to radiation (30-minutes per X-RAY).
How many people died between then and 1922?
By 1922, 100 radiologists had died.
What new things were introduced?
Protected clothing was introduced and mobile X-RAY vans in WW1.
What do modern X-RAYS see?
Modern X-RAY’s can see organs as well as bones.
