Louis Pasteur And The Germ Theory Flashcards
Louis Pasteur was a French chemist/scientist.
He changed medical knowledge by discovering the germ theory.
Before Pasteur they believed in spontaneous generation - germs were the results of the disease.
Through experimentation with a Swan-neck flask, he proved that germs were the cause of a disease.
This was a turning point because doctors and scientists could now find way to kill germs and preventing diseases.
Pasteur discovered vaccines for Anthrax in 1881, vaccine for chicken cholera in 1880, and rabie in 1885.
It is thought that his work on vaccines was inspired by the death of his daughters to typhoid.
Pasteur’s work would eventually lead into pioneering chemotherapy.
Vaccines protected people.
Vicious diseases at earlier times that killed many people were now being controlled.
